Eat Well, Age Well – Can What We Eat Help Us Grow Older, Healthier, and Happier?
As a psychiatrist dealing with elderly, I’ve often found myself reflecting on a simple question patients ask:
“Doctor, what should I eat to stay healthy as I grow older?”
It’s a good question—one that combines the wisdom of the body with the aspirations of the soul. In a world flooded with diet trends and quick fixes, we’re finally seeing long-term, solid scientific answers emerging. And the latest of them comes from a landmark study published in Nature Medicine in 2025.
This study followed over 1 lakh people for nearly 30 years, asking:
Can consistent, healthy eating in mid-life translate to healthier aging—physically, mentally, and cognitively—later in life?
The answer is a resounding yes.
But what does “healthy eating” really look like? And how can we adapt it to our Indian kitchens, lifestyles, and plates?
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be writing a blog series called “Eat Well, Age Well”, decoding this monumental research and translating it into simple, practical advice. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming:
