Introduction
Olanzapine is an antipsychotic medication frequently used to treat mental health conditions like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Purpose of the Medication
Used to Treat:
Schizophrenia
Bipolar Disorder (acute mania or mixed episodes)
Adjunctive treatment for treatment-resistant depression (in combination with fluoxetine)
How It Works:
Blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, helping to stabilize mood, reduce psychotic symptoms, and improve overall emotional functioning.
Key Information
How to Take It:
Common starting dose:
Schizophrenia: 5–10 mg once daily.
Bipolar Mania: 10–15 mg once daily.
Maximum dose: 20 mg/day (based on your doctor’s recommendation).
Take at the same time each day, with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.
Orally disintegrating tablets are available; allow them to dissolve in the mouth.

Precautions
